Privacy policy
Last updated: 16 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data MatchDays collects on matchdays.ch and in the MatchDays iOS app, why, and what you can do about it. It follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, for visitors in the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Who is responsible
Telescope. For anything about your data, write to privacy@matchdays.ch.
Using the site and the app without an account
You can browse games, clubs, competitions and the map without an account. We then process:
- Technical data that every web request carries, such as your IP address, the time and the address requested. Our host keeps it in its logs for a short time to run the service and protect it from abuse.
- Your location, only if you allow it, to show the games being played near you. The app rounds it to about a hundred meters before sending it. It is used for that one request and not stored.
- Your settings, such as your language, the theme and the layout of the app's home screen. They stay on your device (in a cookie or the app's storage).
Your account
When you create an account, we store:
- your first name, last name and email address, and your password in a form that cannot be read back;
- the teams, clubs and competitions you follow;
- the scores you report, with the time you reported them.
Next to a score you report, other people see your first name and the initial of your last name. Your email address is never shown. We use it to sign you in and to send you emails you ask for, such as a link to reset your password.
Cookies and similar storage
We only use what the service needs: a session cookie that keeps you signed in on the site, a security cookie against forged requests, a cookie with the language you chose, and your theme in your browser's storage. The app keeps its sign-in token in the iOS keychain. We use no advertising or tracking cookies and no analytics.
Advertising
Some pages show sponsors' ads. We count how often an ad is clicked, without recording who clicked it. Ads do not track you.
Who else receives data
- Our hosting and email providers, which store the data and send emails on our behalf.
- Apple, which draws the maps on the site and in the app (MapKit), and receives the requests for map tiles.
- bunny.net, which serves the site's fonts and receives your IP address when it does.
We do not sell your data or share it with anyone for marketing.
Some of these providers may process data outside Switzerland and the European Union. When they do, we rely on countries with adequate protection or on the standard contractual clauses approved for this purpose.
Game data
Fixtures and results come from the public calendars clubs publish on football.ch. They name teams, not players.
How long we keep data
- Your account, as long as you keep it.
- When you delete your account, your name, email address, password and favorites are erased straight away, and every device signed in to it is signed out. The scores you reported stay, without your name, so the results remain correct.
- Server logs, for a few weeks at most.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, have it corrected or erased, receive a copy of it, or object to how we use it. You can change your name, email address and password, and delete your account yourself: on the site under Profile, or in the app under Profile. For anything else, write to privacy@matchdays.ch.
If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, in the European Union, to the data protection authority of your country.
Children
You need to be at least 13 to create an account. Children under 16 need the consent of a parent.
Changes
When this policy changes, we update the date at the top. If a change matters to account holders, we tell them by email.
